Kingman AZ

There was really nothing to report on yesterday. The drive back down from monument valley was long but uneventful a great deal of the trip was covering areas we’d already seen.   

We ended the day in Kingman AZ in which I thought would be another run down tired motel, but I was wrong. This motel  (best western) had air conditioning that was quiet and efficient a rarity it seems here. So a great nights sleep was had and have woken up refreshed and ready to go.   

Mandy has come down with a really bad cold. The last few days she’s really struggled. So she’s sleeping in today and we’re going to leave a little later. Las Vegas is only about 45 minutes away and with only a trip to Oatman to do today we can afford the time to let her sleep.  

So this is really just a rambling post today. The abject poverty we have seen up in the reservations, in fact everywhere is quite humbling, we take a lot of luxuries for granted it really does make you think. There are a lot of deserted houses, petrol stations, motels they just seem to leave them standing they’re not pulled pulled down they’re just left as a symbol of some failure.  

American people seem to be really friendly and I’m talking about real people not the people who are paid to be friendly to you. We have been teaching some of them a few kiwi isms like “sweet as” you have to make sure they said say as instead of ass it always gets a laugh and the other one is “yeah, nah”  I did this to a lady at the hotel desk in Alburquerque when asked if I wanted the receipt.  She just looked at me smiling then asked is that a no?.  

Anyway rambling done I’m off for a shower it 7:50 am here and half the days gone!! As there was no photos of significance yesterday here is a picture of me sitting on the edge of the Grand Canyon like it’s a natural thing to do!!
