Yorkshire Dales – Settle

Unfortunately we had to cut our Irish trip short as we had a water leak from the new air conditioning install. So another trip to Leeds to get this issue sorted out (turns out it was a damaged seal)

As we are back in the Leeds area we decided to start our North Yorkshire, Northumberland and Scottish Borders trip a bit earlier than planned . Ireland tour will now have to wait.

From Leeds we decided to go to the Yorkshire Dales for a few days, we found a farm based CL just outside of Settle. All four days we spent here were very gloomy weather-wise and we had a lot of rain too which we haven’t seen for a while. But the location is fabulous, we have done a lot of walking which is so easy with all the bridleways.

Walk from the site into Setlle took around 40 Minutes

Went to a Cafe in Settle called Ye Olde Naked Man for lunch, dating from around 1663 this cafe had some great food and was very busy. There are lots of independent shops here and we happened to be there while the market was on. Lovely place to wander around.

While walking around the town we saw four old racing cars driving around very cool.

Settle Railway station looks like something out of a period drama

We took the train from Settle northwards just two stops to Ribblehead and walked to the viaduct, a very impressive Victorian construction built by Midland Railway and completed in 1876 taking five years to complete. Constructed by a workforce of over 2300 men based in small shanty towns around the base of the viaduct.

Ribblehead Viaduct (not to be confused with the Harry Potter Viaduct up in Scotland)

Tomorrow we leave and head towards Whitby on the Yorkshire coast.
