TRAVELOGUE

..entries from our travels

Bayeux

We are in the town of Bayeux staying at a municiple camp ground – these are campsites provided by the local council, well run, with all the facilities and no more expensive than a car park. The local council provide them to encourage tourists into the area.

Bayeux has the largest commonwealth war cemetery with 4,648 buried here. Sydney Bates a 23 year old soldier who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross is buried here.

We wanted very much to see these cemeteries but its very hard to see the scale of them and the ages of the young men who died.

After visiting the cemetery and museum we walked into the old town itself. The Bayeux tapestry is not open to the public right now, closed until next year unfortunately.

There are so many Museums in Normandy this was one on the outskirts of Bayeux. Starting to get a little ‘tapped’ out with museums so after today we are taking a day off from sightseeing.

View out of the van this morning

We’ve had storms overnight and constant rain its just easing off now but has been a good day to sit around doing nothing! we went to the local carrefour (supermarket) and have some fresh bread and cheese for lunch (as you do) going to relax, read and nap today.
