Dordogne – La Roque-Gageac
June 11, 2026
We drove almost 3 hours, the most we’ve done so far, to arrive at a place called La Roque-Gageac on the Dordogne river. This is a beautiful area with hilltop chateaus, picturesque cliffs and of course the river. We are staying at a really nice campsite right on the river, not sure for how long, its really lovely here – when we checked in we said perhaps 3 days, the owner said pay when you leave you might want to stay longer…

This morning we awoke to dragons breathing close to the van it was 6:45am and wondered what the noise was. Turned out to be a hot air balloon burner. The balloons were coming down close to the river and then lifting back up and heading off. It was pretty spectacular watching them come over the hill, head down to the river then fly away.

We walked into the village of La Roque-Gageac, absolutely stunning, then we took one of the boat tours along the Dordogne river. Very nice way to spend the day.
