Lincoln

We drove from Melton across to Lincoln. On the way we passed the “On Freedom’s Wings” monument. After World War 2 Lincolnshire became known as the Bomber County with over 70 Airbases.

On Freedom’s Wings is a life-sized steel Lancaster Bomber and is a memorial to Bomber command and the crew of Lancaster R5689c four of whom were killed after crashing a short distance from here

After arriving in Lincoln we stayed at a lovely farm and after a good nights sleep caught the bus into Lincoln itself. I always enjoy coming back to Lincoln it always has a nice feel to it especially up at the Cathedral quarter.

This day was no exception as the city was holding a 1940’s event up there.

1940’s Weekend

The 1940’s weekend was great, there were market stalls selling lots of lovely local produce, cake stalls and the pubs were doing a roaring trade, lots of people turned up in costumes and there was live music from the era which was fantastic to see especially watching all the ‘older’ people dancing and singing along.
