Day 6 Hiroshima
April 8, 2024
Hiroshima Castle was first on the agenda today. This castle was built in the 1590’s and was destroyed in 1945.

Today it’s s home to a museum of sorts with some Swords both Tanto and Katana and some suits of armour. We didn’t t spend too long here as there were a couple of noisey tour groups going through.

Peace Memorial Park
Walking from the Castle to Peace memorial park we came across the Atomic Bomb Dome. The remains of an industrial exhibition hall built in 1915 This dome was very close to the epicentre of the bomb which exploded 600m above Hiroshima

We walked through this peaceful park taking in all the sights.

The ashes of thousands of unclaimed or unidentified people are interred in a tomb below this mound. Quite a sobering place.

Constructed and lit in 1964 the flame has come to symbolise anti nuclear aspiration and will not be extinguished until the day there are no nuclear weapons in the world.
Tomorrow we are on the train back to Tokyo to leave Japan on Wednesday – heading back to the Philippines./
