Mildenhall

We spent a couple of nights at a camping location at Wildmere Farm in a village called Holywell Row. This village is between two large US Airbases at RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk.

We walked a bit in the area but there is not a lot to see, RAF Mildenhall is home to USAF refuelling Squadrons so have large aircraft rumbling all day. While RAF Lakenheath is home to Fast jets (F35’s) which are very active right now – as you can imagine they are very loud! We went to Lakenheath to visit the viewing platform but it was so busy we could not park.

While we were here we have taken the chance to have the van weighed. It is rated at 3500kg. Our licenses will only allow us to drive up to 3500kg. This weight included everything fuel, people, water and all our personal belongings. Luckily we weighed in at 3420 fully loaded so we have 80kg to play with.

Tomorrow we head back into Norfolk.
